What was in the way
Evaluating whether to enter clinical software is an expensive question to answer badly. The requirement was to establish, quickly and at contained cost, whether an electronic medical records proposition was technically viable and clinically usable — without committing to a full product programme up front.
What we did
Scoped the proof of concept around the smallest set of workflows that would genuinely test the proposition, rather than attempting a miniature version of the whole product.
Built a working records system covering patient identification, clinical record capture and reporting.
Designed the data model so that the concept could scale into a production system if the evaluation went well, avoiding a throwaway prototype.
Delivered against a fixed timebox so the evaluation decision was never held up by the build.
